The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) marked a significant milestone in the evolution of Mauritius' tax-free shopping landscape with the launch of its revamped website, taxfreeshopping.mu.

The unveiling took place during a B2B event held on Thursday, October 3, at Hennessy Park Hotel, bringing together key stakeholders in the tax-free shopping ecosystem.

The new website represents a considerable shift from tax refund to a comprehensive tax-free shopping experience, offering enhanced features and expanded possibilities for both shoppers and partners.

Dr Drishtysingh Ramdenee, Secretary General of the MCCI, introduced the platform as a fresh brand identity for Mauritius' tax-free shopping sector.

"This new brand represents a significant evolution in Mauritius' shopping experience, transitioning from mere tax refunds to a comprehensive tax-free shopping ecosystem”, stated Dr Ramdenee.

The event gathered representatives from major shopping malls, retail operators, hotels, and destination management companies across Mauritius.

Attendees included entities such as Go Duty Free, New Mauritius Hotels Ltd (Beachcomber), Parure and Summertimes, alongside registered artisans from the voucher scheme.

During the event, Mr Anwar Kaidoo, Operations Manager at the MCCI, shared insights on shopper trends, product categories, amongst others.

Strategic initiatives and touchpoints designed to engage sophisticated international shoppers were also outlined.

Marketing Lead, Ms Nelly Amasay, highlighted promotional strategies, including a multi-faceted marketing approach, announcing a new B2B newsletter that aims to engage and grow the tax-free shopping community while providing partners with powerful tools to reach shoppers.

A key highlight was the introduction of the "Shopping Route" feature, soon to be available exclusively on the MCCI Tax Refund App.

The event concluded with an awards ceremony recognising the top five tax-free malls and shop operators in Mauritius for 2023-2024.
