The 30th Anniversary of GS1 Mauritius Marked By the Launch of Three New Softwares

On July 26, 2024, GS1 Mauritius Ltd and Mauritius Network Services (MNS) celebrated 30 years of operation at an event held at the Caudan Arts Centre. The programme featured a panel discussion with local and international speakers, exploring GS1 Mauritius's impact on consumer safety, sustainability, efficiency, and traceability across various industries.

 

Local panellists included Dr. Drishtysingh Ramdenee, MCCI Secretary General and GS1 Mauritius CEO, Dr. Fabien Boullé, CEO of Indika, Mr. Kyle Parker CEO of Mitas Global Limited, Mrs. Christina Sam See Moi Senior Manager at Innodis), and Mr. Rajnish Hawabhay, CEO of MNS. International participants were Peter Otieno CEO of GS1 Kenya, Ms. Géraldine Lissalde-Bonnet Vice-President Healthcare, GS1 Global Office, Ms. Michele Francis Padayachee, GS1 South Africa Executive and Mr. Robert Beideman, Chief Product Officer, GS1 Global Office.

 

 

Dr. Ramdenee opened the ceremony, highlighting GS1 Mauritius's economic influence. Key addresses followed from Mr. Rajesh Anandsing Acharuz (Acting Financial Secretary), Mr. Sonny Wong (GS1 Mauritius President), and Mr. Rajnish Hawabhay.

 

Mr. Sonny Wong outlined GS1 Mauritius's journey and its role in supporting emerging companies. Mr. Acharuz emphasised the government's commitment to SMEs through GS1 Mauritius standards implementation.

 

The chairman of GS1 Mauritius also introduced the SUNRISE 2027 strategy, aimed at transitioning to 2D barcodes. He explained, “It is  the opportunity to integrate more information about the quality, sustainability, and origin of our products directly into the barcode." This forms part of the “A Piece of Paradise” initiative, designed to enhance Mauritian products' competitiveness in global markets.

 

The event also launched new software tools: Track2Asset and DocuChek for asset and document traceability, and API Mall by MNS for accelerating access to national APIs.

 

Over 100 stakeholders attended the concluding networking session.
