The Ministry of Health and Wellness has published the new Public Health (Restriction on Tobacco Products) Regulations 2022, following the related Cabinet decision taken on Friday the 20th of May 2022.

The new Regulations provide for the introduction of plain packaging for tobacco products as well as new requirements in terms of labelling, package design, size and health warnings. These Regulations also make provision for new restrictions on the sale, distribution and promotion of tobacco products.

The legislation pertaining to plain packaging for tobacco products manufactured or imported into Mauritius will be effective as from the 31st of December 2022 and, it will come into force for products sold in Mauritius as from the 1st of March 2023.
