The MCCI was honoured to receive the visit of HE Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of the Nigeria at the seat of the institution on Tuesday 27th August 2019.
He was accompanied by HE Uyigue Igbe, Ambassador of Nigeria, Mrs. Kolapo Olabisi O, CEO of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library Youth Centre, Mr. Jaco Du Plessis, Brenthurst Foundation, South Africa, Mr. Maurice Babale Augustine, Former President Obasanjo's Assistant, Mr. Bartholomew Anaekwe, Head of Chancery, and Mr. Vishwanath Gaya, Consultant.
During the meeting chaired by the President of the MCCI, Mr. Marday Venkatasamy, HE Obasanjo expressed his satisfaction regarding his various meetings in Mauritius. He lauded the remarkable development that our country has gone through in only 51 years of Independence. He highlighted that Nigeria has a lot to learn from Mauritius and enquired about the contribution of the MCCI in the economic development of the country.
Mr. Venkatasamy pointed out that the strong collaboration between the public and private sector greatly contributes to the economic stability and advancement of Mauritius and explained that MCCI is the main private sector institution that takes part in all public/private negotiating panels, be it on national, regional and international levels.
The meeting was also an opportunity to take stock of the positive and encouraging development of cooperation between MCCI and the African Region. Mr. Venkatasamy underlined the vast network that operators can avail to themselves through the different cooperation agreements with various countries, especially in the African region.
Mr. Barlen Pillay, Secretary General of the MCCI, made a presentation on the different services that the MCCI offers to support the business community.
