The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) convened its Business & Policy Dialogue yesterday at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, bringing together government ministers and private sector leadership in a focused consultation.
The session brought together Dr the Hon Mrs Jyoti Jeetun, Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning; Hon Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade; Hon Michaël Sik Yuen, Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection; Hon Aadil Ameer Meea, Minister of Industry, SME and Cooperatives; and Hon Dhaneshwar Damry, Junior Minister of Finance.
The MCCI delegation included MCCI President Mr. Charles Harel, Vice-President Mr. Patrice Marie, Secretary General Dr. Drishtysingh Ramdenee, and MCCI Business School President Mr. Huns Biltoo, alongside the Chamber's sectoral commission chairs.
Central to the discussions was building a strong public-private partnership to drive sustainable and inclusive economic growth while strengthening Mauritius's competitive position.
The MCCI emphasised its dedication to collaborating with the Government on crucial issues of business facilitation and cost optimisation.
The dialogue highlighted the essential role of regulatory predictability in fostering business confidence, with concrete proposals including an Impact Regulatory Assessment Framework. Participants underlined the need for a comprehensive national socio-economic roadmap that would ensure inclusive development through optimised resource allocation and strategic human capital development.
In presenting its strategic vision, the MCCI outlined targeted support for private sector growth, specifically aiming at inclusive development through initiatives for SMEs, women entrepreneurs, and start-ups. This commitment is already evidenced through the Chamber's flagship Xport Accelerator programme and the MCCI Business School's focus on human resource development.
This consultation marks the beginning of a series of high-level dialogues leading up to MCCI's 175th anniversary in 2025, underlining the institution's commitment to fostering meaningful public-private collaboration.
