In a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life and the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority yesterday Tuesday 14th of September 2021, it has been announced that Mauritius will reopen its borders on the 1st of October 2021.
The communiqué highlights that the decision is motivated by the percentage of vaccinated adult population, currently standing at 82%. This figure, which represents 60% of the overall population, is expected to increase as from the end of September 2021, once persons aged below 18 years old will start getting vaccinated.
The Health Minister, Dr Kailesh Jagutpal, has stated that the vaccination rollout has been systematic, and that Mauritius has already exceeded its target of fully vaccinated adults well ahead of the complete reopening of borders to vaccinated travellers on the 1st of October 2021.
