A seminar on “Les modes alternatifs de règlement des litiges, vers une justice plus efficace pour les opérateurs économiques” was held on Friday 3rd March 2017 in the conference room of the MCCI.
The seminar was conducted by Mr. Barlen Pillay and Mrs. Anjana Chikhuri from the MARC Permanent Secretariat, Mrs. Angela Albert, Lawyer, IFOMENE Graduate Mediator and member, and President of the AME, Mr. Jean-Marc Albert, Lawyer and Mediator and Mrs. Audrey Bouvier, Lawyer and Mediator.
The primary goal of the seminar was to sensitize economic operators about the crucial importance and outcome of mediation.
A recurring discussion topic during the seminar, both from the speakers and the audience, was the need for more understanding and support from the legal community of the process of mediation. Mrs. Angela Albert highlighted that mediation is a process complementary to conventional litigation, and that the legal community has much to gain by fully embracing it.
The audience consisted of around 40 participants mainly barristers, attorneys, CEOs as well as students who participated actively in giving their views and opinions about mediation in Mauritius.
The IFOMENE and MARC are planning to organize a course on Mediation during the year 2017
