Business updates

Companies, especially small and medium enterprises, often find market regulations and trade procedures challenging when they import or export products. Lack of access to information and technical support can be an impediment to national trade performance and economic growth.

As part of its mandate to facilitate trade, the MCCI organised a half-day workshop “Expanding Your Trade Horizons” on Thursday 22^nd October 2015 at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel. The workshop, which was attended by about 25 operators, comprised two sessions:

1. Overview of Trade Agreements: The different trade agreements that Mauritius has signed with various countries and trade blocs were presented, with emphasis on the products eligible for preferences and the rules of origin.

2. Trade Obstacles Alert Mechanism (TOAM): The TOAM project, which aims to facilitate trade by resolving barriers faced by operators, was introduced. Operators were trained on how to register on the platform, report an obstacle and use the various functionalities to obtain valuable information.
