The Blue Number Initiative is a Global Registry for Sustainable Farmers.
It is a collaborative effort between the UN Global Compact, International Trade Centre (ITC) and GS1 to map and harmonise hundreds of different standards and certificates related to sustainable farming.
The Blue Number Initiative will enable farmers, governments, businesses and communities to communicate with one another.
The registry helps many stakeholders:
• Smaller farmers in developing countries to be recognised for sustainable practices, opening up potential markets and allowing them to become more visible
• Multinationals to identify sources of food that are sustainable
• Consumers to gain better visibility to make informed purchase decisions
