During the 7th SADC Industrialisation Week 2024 (SIW) held in Harare, Zimbabwe from 28 July to 2 August 2024, the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), represented by Dr Drishtysingh Ramdenee, Secretary General, signed Memoranda of Understanding with Business Unity South Africa (BUSA) and the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI).
The event aimed to strengthen economic ties between the 16 Member States of the SADC, with a six-day programme including conferences and discussion panels on promoting innovation to support growth within the SADC region.
Dr. Ramdenee met with Mrs. Deidre Penfold, Board Director of BUSA, who represented the organisation at the SIW on 1 August 2024. BUSA aims to support South Africa's economic progress by advocating for policies to create growth and employment opportunities. The MCCI had initiated talks with BUSA to explore strategic collaboration prior to this event.
Dr Ramdenee also discussed with Mrs Sekai Kuvarika, CEO of CZI, to exchange on mutual opportunities from this collaboration.
CZI, acting as the SIW Secretariat, co-organised the event with the SADC Business Council and represents Zimbabwe's business membership organisation with members across 36 sub-sectors of the Zimbabwean economy.
The MCCI is expanding its presence in the SADC region and plans to pursue these business partnerships through delegation visits and meetings to create opportunities in the region.
