Second Round of Negotiations of the Mauritius-Turkey FTA

The second round of trade negotiations for the setting of a preferential trade area between Mauritius and Turkey was held in Ankara, Istanbul on 2-3 November 2009. Discussions were focused on the framework agreement and on the tariff liberalisation commitments to be undertaken by both parties. There were also preliminary discussions on the rules of origin. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for January 2010 in Mauritius.

The Mauritius delegation was headed by Mr. Assad Bhuglah Director, Trade Policy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and comprised Mandusha Rambacassing, Trade Analyst from the same Ministry, Ms. Rooma Narrainen from the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Laurent Law from the Chamber of Agriculture and Mr. J. Audit from the Customs Department.

Both countries reiterated their willingness and determination to further strengthen economic and commercial relations and to establish lasting relations based on partnership and cooperation.
